Jeanette Price studied English Literature at University of California, Berkeley, and has taken English Literature courses at New York University at a doctorial degree level. She has been an English instructor in Japan and has worked as a writing & book club instructor. Ms. Price has focused on writing and grammar skills.

Speech, Debate, and interview instructor Mr. Cannon has 15 years of experience competing in and teaching forensics. As a competitor, he currently holds the Tennessee state record for the number of first place speech competition titles held by one high school student and has reached the “Outstanding Distinction” level in the National Forensic League, the seventh highest honor awarded by the organization. He has taught students at John Burroughs and Crescenta Valley High Schools in the college equivalent of Speech 101 classes and college-level speakers through the Glendale Community College’s speech and debate team, which he founded in 2005.

Alexandra Rhodes teaches Spanish, book club, and writing. She was Presidential Scholar and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with B.A.s in both International Relations and Spanish. With collegiate honors in Spanish and extensive experience living and traveling in Spanish-speaking countries, she brings expertise and cultural insight to her Spanish classes. Her background as an adult ESL teacher and a professional songwriter lends both precision and to her teaching style.

Math instructor Mr. Salehi was a candidate for the International Mathematical Olympiad team of his native country Iran in high school. With his experience in math competitions and tutoring students in algebra, geometry, and calculus, he brings particular expertise in helping students prepare for competitions such as the American Mathematics Competitions, the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, and Math Olympiads.

Mr. James Kim graduated from California Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Physics and is currently pursuing Ph. D. degree at Caltech. He won gold medals numerous times in Physics Olympiad competitions organized by Seoul National University, Postech, and KPhO in Korea. James had experiences in teaching high school students for Physics Olympiad in Korea before he came to the United States to continue his study at Caltech. He is teaching Physics Olympiad at Wilshire Academy once a week.

Mr. Philip Flores graduated from Stanford University in 2003 with a degree in English with an emphasis on creative writing. He has also taught and mentored students in many different settings. He served as a residential counselor and teaching assistant for a creative writing class at an EPGY program at Stanford in 2004, and in the summer of 2003, he taught underprivileged youth through a non-profit filmmaking education program called the Ghetto Film School, NY. Mr. Flores has also received an MFA degree in Cinematic Arts Production from University of Southern California in 2008.

Mr. Ben Xu is currently a doctoral student in business at the University of Southern California. He had a bachelor degree in mathematics and a master degree in statistics. His publication appeared in both economics and management journals. He had the Math Olympiad training in China for six years and received a First Prize from China High School Math Contest (CHSMC) and the Meritorious Prize from the International Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). He was an instructor of algebra, calculus and business courses at three state universities for five years.

Ms. Pallavi Gunalan graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2011 with a B.S. in bioengineering and English. The collaborative atmosphere at Caltech prepared her with both a strong foundation in math and science, and the interpersonal skills required for tutoring. She is currently doing neuroscience research at UCLA and tutoring elementary through college graduates in math, science, the GRE, SAT, and ACT.

Ms. Susie An is currently in the PhD program at Yale's Department of History of Art. She is in her second year, although she will be taking some time off for personal reasons. She graduated in 2010 from Harvard University, majoring in History of Art and Architecture. At Wilshire Academy, Susie is teaching a range of subjects, from English to the SAT and GRE.
